IT'S CNY TIME!

"恭喜恭喜恭喜你呀, 恭喜恭喜恭喜你...."

"每个大街小巷, 每个人的嘴里 ..."

"财神到! 财神到! ..."

Unless you are someone who never step out of your house during CNY period, I am sure most of you are familiar with the lyrics above. Yes, these are some of the 'famous' songs which most departmental stores and even pasar malams like to blast and torture us with, songs after songs , year after year without fail. You know what is the worst part? The songs are the same every year! Funny how those older generations seem to enjoy it so much that they actually can even sing along with it. (Must be generation gap!) Can someone pleaseeeeeeeeeeee come up with some new songs? *Yawn*

Normally, this is the period when i will get all excited and rush out to buy new clothings or even accompany my mum to buy CNY goodies. Somehow for this year, i just can't get into the CNY mood or even feel any need to buy new clothings. Just the thought of walking past those places to browse for things is enough to make me cringe. If i can have superpower, the first thing i will do is to make all those songs jammed up so that i can shop in peace then switch them back on after i am done with my shopping. (At least i am not that bad to deprive others of their 'enjoyment' right? Haha...) Even my dumb dumb recognises them as 'aunty songs' though he found it quite amusing -_-"'

Well... this is also the period when my mum will start her "Everywhere red red" mission. To get a glimpse of what i meant, see pictures below:

Front of my house door

The ceiling outside

The wall opposite my house

Even the poor plants were not spared!

Some of these decorations have become a permanent fixture outside my house. So you see, finding my house unit no. is easy. I am 'celebrating' CNY almost everyday thanks to my mum! -_-"'

Anyway, i think i can already 'see' my 'CNY itinerary' in front of me since every year is the same:

Eve of CNY: Mum will start cooking some dishes during the day to prepare for offerings after midnight. Evening time will be a trip to grandma's house for reunion dinner(Steamboat). Return home to watch CNY countdowns on TV if there are no other programs (I think i will skip that cos sat night is 'soccer fever time' Yeah~). Ended up smelling 'haze' while i zzz cos this is the time when mum will start making her offerings for the god, with all the joss sticks and incense papers burning.

CNY Day One: Free alarm! Jolted from my dreamland by 'noise' aka hokkien CNY songs (Yes, suay suay my irritating dad likes to blast his hokkien songs with new or old vcds that he bought. No escape for me! Arghhhh!!! Every year listen to the same song, not sian meh? zzz...). Went to grandma's house for lunch (Steamboat again!). Spend the day playing poker cards with cousins. Meanwhile, wait for rest of my relatives to gather at grandma's house while i add to my ang bao collection. Haha... Night time: Wait for my turn to have dinner (Steamboat yet again! I am getting sick!). After that, watch CNY programs or continue to 'gamble'. Optional: Go out to watch midnight movie. Rest for the night at grandma's house.

CNY Day Two: Free alarm yet again! Jolted from ZZZ by 'noise' from visiting relatives this time. Lunch unknown (Hopefully not steamboat again. I am going to puke!). F&E for rest of the day (Eg. Pay a visit to my uncle, go someone's house or go elsewhere such as River Ang Bao to 'admire' the displays). Rest for the night at grandma's house or go back home.(Depends on my mood)

CNY Day Three: Still unknown - Maybe rot at home or chiong for my project and test which will be due in about 1 week's time. Gasps! I think Day 2 may have to change to the same as day 3 due to special circumstances this year. Sigh~

To those wondering how come i alway have a lot of birthdays, steamboats, buffets, BBQs and whatever shit (oops!) to attend, here is the reason why: My huge family tree! (Mum's side from my grandparents point of view)

Legend: GP = Grandparents, S/D = Son/Daughter, GD/GS = Grand-son/daughter, GGD/GGS = Great-Grand son/daughter
Note: Spouse not shown in the above diagram

Imagine we had occasions like CNY,Mother's day,Father's day, wedding dinner, House warming, 21st birthdays, niece or nephew's 1 month after birth, 1 year old bday and the list goes on...

Now you should know why i am alway busy celebrating some occasions for someone and most of the time, it is a 'grand affairs'? *Sweat*

Sadly, my ah ma and ah gong from my dad's side had already passed away a few years ago. Otherwise, i will get to spend CNY with them as well. To think i used to dread visiting them while they were still alive. Even if i want to do it now, i can't even have the opportunity to do it. Sigh~ That is the problem with human. We tend to take things for granted only to regret when they are not around. Haiz~ I really miss them :'(
