X'MAS @ PAN PACIFIC ORCHARD
Just celebrated my favourite holiday of the year - X'mas! :)
As usual, we decided to book a hotel room for our nutpals x'mas celebration. After killing most of my brain cells in deciding the place, we decided to "up the budget" a bit and booked a deluxe room at Pan Pacific Orchard. Coconut joked that we can have the 'tai tai' feel again if we book at Orchard because we can just grab our wallet, handphone, walk out of the building and tada! straight away we are in Orchard! Haha... Ya i know we are crazy. But it's nice to have dreams once in a while right.
A nice gesture from the hotel - a complimentary x'mas bear cupcake (i think).
As usual, some pictures of our room to share:
A king size bed that is not 'king size' enough for all of us. Ha...
But luckily the room is quite spacious...
The bathtub looks nice but i think none of us use it.
Nothing special about the view though. Haiz...
Rong trying to act bimbotic with her fanciful umbrella.
Hmm... This picture looks pretty "suggestive". Lol...
Internal affairs part 1: "抓奸在床"
Alright. Enough of all our nonsense.
Time for dinner!
After consolidating our votes, we decided to book a table at NYDC for our x'mas dinner.
Donut & Coconut
Rong and me
Our dinner!
We had to purposely finished our food soooooo slowly just to wait for our dear Groundnut to join us after her work. When she ordered her salad, the staff informed her that they ran out of salad dressing. We also noticed Donut's pasta looks dry but were told that they also ran out of cream sauce -_-"' I thought they should have expected it and stock up for x'mas? And we were there quite early too (around 6pm) *Shake head* Nevermind. It's X'mas. Forgive and forget.
*Back to hotel*
Internal affairs part 2: "左拥右抱"
Everyone seems to be getting 'sleazy'. Wahahaa.. Unfortunately, our hotel is located near Orchard Tower - the "red light district". Maybe we were "influenced" by the atmosphere. Ha...
For Peanut's belated birthday celebration this year, we had to prepare something different since she claimed that our surprise for her is not 'surprising' anymore (we always use the 'after-bathing/open door-spring-a-surprise-trick'). Luckily this time we had plenty of time to think of new ideas since she will only be joining us after midnight.
Our forfeit queen, Groundnut, preparing her song script for the 'surprise'
The 'song script'. So funny...
Meanwhile, we went on to play our customary 'poker cum forfeit' game.
Rong simply can't resist this 80 bucks "
For Girls Only" vodka & cognac bottle that she decided to purchase it on the spot from Cold Storage.
Madly in love with the bottle. Ha...
When Peanut arrived, we decided to throw her off guard by pretending to go through the procedure of introducing and giving clues to each of our present for gift exchange. Towards the end of our 'presentation' (our cue), we immediately did this:
The first 'surprise' we prepared for Peanut - forming the alphabets of her english name. Lucky i am not in charge of "Y". Wahahaa...
The 2nd surprise - Groundnut started her 'song dance'. Hee... The 3rd surprise - A Mrs Field Cookie tin box which we hid in the room for Peanut to find. 找不到! 找不到! Peanut 找不到 ~
With some clues from us, Peanut finally found the 'treasure box' behind the tv :)
Posing for the camera:
喜(^_^) 怒 (>_<) 哀(=_=) 乐(^o^)
And i received a 4gb thumbdrive from Groundnut! Just nice too! Now i can put my fat fat thumbdrive away liao. Wahahaa...
Groundnut received a Crabtree & Evelyn rose water handcream from Rong
We spotted a rare sight of an almost deserted Orchard Road when we went out for our early morning breakfast the next day.
By the time we checked out, Orchard Road was closed for the Christmas Parade.
Me with a Baa Baa pink sheep :)

The various Christmas themed floats
A big pyramid stacked up with empty Coca Cola bottle along Orchard Road . So cool...

CHIN HUAT LIVE SEAFOOD
Just went for another round of food feast again.
I think i should do it every week so that i can gain some weight. Wahahaa...
I alway have a thing for food program. Hence, i have been faithfully following the "永远吃不肥" food program on tv (i think the program title is deceiving and cheating all the people out there because obviously, you are more likely to become 肥 instead of 吃不肥 if you constantly eat buffet). And the shitty thing about watching food program is that you can see it but you can't taste it, YET. Since this program started, i have food cravings almost every week, especially buffets. After watching some good reviews on tv, we decided to go Chin Huat (opposite Novena Square) for a steamboat feast as a belated celebration for zy's birthday :)
We arrived there around 6.30pm. I wonder was it the power of the media because we waited for almost 1 hour before we finally got a table. *Faint* By then we were already sweating like a cow. Think probably have to be there much earlier next time if we want to avoid the queue. We should be kiasu and go there at 5pm! *Sounds like a typical Singaporean*
We were given an indoor seats which is supposed to be air-conditioned but i think it was not strong enough. Can hardly felt it at all. And i wish the place could be bigger and more spacious. But the good thing is that the place is definitely more hygienic now compared to it's previous location at Marina South. Heard so many horror stories about that place. Lizards, cockcoaches and... I think i better don't go on. So maybe it's good that they shifted here.
The varieties there are not too bad. Other than the usual steamboat ingredients, there are also Sushi, BBQ, teppanyaki and Dessert sections. They also have a huge range of seafood, even a whole fish! But we did not dare to try it because we were unsure whether it's been throughly cleanse and scaled. Can even request for sambal stingray. ZY told me she saw curry chicken and 'Kong Bak Pao'(Braised Pork Belly Buns). And the pork belly is red instead of black. Ha... Sounds more like Char Siew. The soup base there is quite limited - only chicken broth and tom yam. But i think we would have chosen those two anyway even if there were other choices. No free flow of drinks though. Have to buy it from the counter :(
'Live' Crabs!!!! - My Favourite!!!!
'Live' Prawns
The reason why i put 'live' crabs/prawns was because we were allocated only a certain amount of live crabs and prawns based on the number of pax. But the prawns doesnt seem to be moving at all even though it is supposed to be LIVE. It certainly did not jump out of the bowl as what the waiteress warned us. Ha... But Leon claimed that he saw it wriggling. Maybe it was already half dead. Though i got to admit the prawns and crabs were certainly very fresh. I think it also made our soup bases even more flavourful. Too bad the amount allocated (the two pics above) is abit pathetic. I think i can even finish all by myself. Haha...
Some of the ingredients for cooking:
Chicken, Pork, Octopus
Mushrooms, Beancurds, Crabsticks, Various Meat/Fish Balls...
Greens
Fried food - Carrot cake, Onion Rings, Prawns
Sushi
Not exactly a great range of sushi varieties here as we only saw about 4 types of sushi on display. Maybe they did not replenish it because i noticed there were several empty trays at the sushi counter.
Desserts Corner
I think the chocolate eclair deserves a special mention here. They are super nice!!! Can't remember how many i ate. It's cold and refreshing, especially after all the heaty and fried stuff we just ate. It's not too sweet either. And i noticed the moment the waitress refilled it, it was gone within minutes. And then it will be refilled and emptied quickly again. Maybe that's why it tasted so good since it won't be left in the open for too long. The cream puff was nice too. The cream filling was frozen, so it felt like eating ice-cream. Again, it felt very shiok eating it.
The dessert section also consists of some cakes and brownies. Saw some puddings but did not manage to get it. There were also salads on the other side. And guess what? They even have chocolate fondue! That's why i jio them to go there. Wahahaa... Ok. Better stop my craziness. Anyway, the fondue was served in a small cup for each person. It comes with marshmallows and some cut fruits. Candles are provided if we decided to warm it up. Nothing special about the fondue though. I just want to mention it because i am biased towards chocolates. Lol...
Alright, gonna end my post here cos i am just helping a friend to give a brief feedback of what Chin Huat has to offer. I can foresee more steamboat feast coming up for me next month during CNY. Probably gonna be sick of it after that!
The 'steamboaters' :)
